I was thrilled to take part in inducting Leon Russell into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Most people don’t know that Leon wrote one of the greatest songs of all time, “A Song For You”, which has been covered by everyone from Donny Hathaway to Christina Aguilera. I’m really proud of our performance together so I wanted to make sure you got a chance to see it.

Guy-Piece of My Love
Listening to this on repeat the last 30 minutes of the car ride home today. I really miss Guy.
I’ve read MANY books on self publishing and one of the many things that seems to be repeated in each one is the importance of an “author platform”, ie website, blog, facebook, etc.
I’ve read alot of blogs, believe me, I spend hours online reading author blogs and websites and I’ve seen some really good ones on Wordpress and Blogger. But they just aren’t for me. I’ve tried my hand at both and I just like tumblr more.
I started using tumblr back in March 2010 for a personal blog and I fell in love with the tumblr community. Plus it’s incredibly user friendly. I don’t have to have people visit my blog every day…all my posts automatically show up on the Dashboard of my followers. It made sense for me to use it as part of my author platform.
I can post anything that I want here, whether it’s a video or a simple quote. Both of my blogs are so personal, fun, and completely random, which is me in a nutshell.
Plus I love that people can send me private messages and I have the option of putting them on my blog or answering in private.
Tumblr is AWESOME!

Book Trailer for Untitled*, a fiction novel by author, Jackie Chanel. Released March 7, 2011.
This has been a long process, in my head, that is. I kept going back and forth on whether or not I wanted to put together a book trailer for Untitled*. My first attempt at a trailer for Change of Heart didn’t go so well and NEVER hit the Internet. Now that I’m starting from scratch, like Untitled* is the first book I’ve ever written, I couldn’t decide whether or not it was the right thing to do.
Does anyone watch book trailers like they watch movie trailers? The answer is probably no. Most people don’t go to YouTube and search for book trailers. However, an attention grabbing book trailer on your blog or on your website can and will do wonders for sparking interest in your book. Especially for those people who don’t want to read a 1 to 2 chapter preview.
Creating the actual trailer was difficult for a few days for this rookie…until I decided to see what April Hamilton had to offer on that topic. I’ve been using her book “The Indie Author Guide” as my main resource for getting this book out there and it’s been tremendously helpful. When I stumbled upon the pages about creating a book trailer, I felt like I’d struck gold!
She gave a list of really good video making websites that are perfect for what I was trying to do. I took a look at them all and decided on using Animoto and One True Media. After that, it was a snap. Also, there is this incredible website called Freeplay music that allows you to download royalty free music similar to stock photos. I’m in heaven! This made my trailer process so much easier.
I’m thinking of doing more than one trailer, to focus on different themes of the book and different audiences. Here’s the one I finished on OneTrue Media. Hope you like it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3P7bpLnANk8
